In Pen Pictures 3, pupils are encouraged to add their voice to what they write. They present opinions and make complaints, and begin to look at formal and informal language. They are helped to write longer sentences when describing, for example, the process an inventor’s crazy machine goes through to turn on the light!
In this sample lesson, the learners see six pictures during the lifetime of a specific tree. They are asked to put themselves in the position of that tree and write their own life story. The activities in the lesson encourage them to vary the grammatical structures they use to best express the events. The sample also shows the review activity which the learners are asked to do after writing. The teacher's notes for this lesson are on the page Pen Pictures Teacher's Books, where you will also find a download of sample students' complositions for this lesson, with correction and assessment notes.
