American Sound Chart - hancockmcdonald.com/materials/american-sound-chart

This version of the Pronpack Sound Chart uses the symbols for the American sound system as used in Celce-Murcia, Brinton and Goodwin Teaching Pronunciation, CUP 1996. The r-coloured vowels are given as separate hexagons. The cot-caught pair of sounds share a hexagon, reflecting the merger of these sounds. The outer circle are complex sounds, reflected in the fact that they are all represented by more than one symbol. The inner circle are simple sounds, reflected in the fact that they are single symbols. Click here to read an article explaining the sound chart. View higher res versions of the chart here.
