The slide show of this talk can be found on the PDF below. In this talk, we will focus on pronunciation at three levels – 1 sounds, 2 words, and 3 phrases. For each of these, we will look at some of the typical problems for Italian learners, and try out some fun activities for raising awareness of these. We will then look at how learners can get help with these pronunciation features outside the classroom, particularly from a dictionary. The Poem activity for -ed endings, Nightmare Hotel, can be found here. The journey game for minimal pairs /i/ and /i:/ can be found here. The Turn Words game instructions can be found here. Recordings of the poem Hannahs Horse, and the Schwa Limerick, can be downloaded below. Get in touch if you have any questions!

Dear Mark, I have jus downloaded the material you prepared for your talk in Udine, and I really would like to thank you for your lovely seminar - rich in practical ideas and made precious by a touch of humour. In time, I'll surely have a look at this precious website you have been nourishing with such a care. Have a nice weekend, wherever in the planet you might be. Manuela Tellini, Udine, Italy
